Drummer and Movie Producer Richard Baratta has just completed his third studio recording since 2020. All recordings are on the Savant/High Note record label. The first two critically acclaimed recordings, Music in Film-The Reel Deal and Music in Film-The Sequel, which were movie based compositions with a fresh twist latin/jazz twist by pianist/arranger Bill O’Connell.

 

This stellar recording, OFF THE CHARTS, is a compilation of wonderful jazz compositions that flew just under the radar of the most well know and popular jazz classics, under recorded, yet never under appreciated. Baratta has assembled an A-list cast of all-stars to bring this music life. With John Patitucci on bass, Dave Kikoski on piano,Jerry Bergonzi on tenor saxophone, Paul Rossman percussion (3 cuts) and Baratta on drums, this music has all the characteristics of a fine vintage wine. The selections: Herzog, Perisina, Lost, Blackberry Winter, Afro Centric, Molten Glass, Sombrero Sam, Out Of This World, and Tones For Joan’s Bones, all first recorded by some of the giants in jazz in the 1960’s and 1970’s, remind us of what a special and creative time that was in jazz history.
